Transcriptable undergraduate and graduate certificates are awarded for satisfactory completion of 15 to 16 credit hours in specified online BIOMED courses.  A certificate may be a goal by itself or obtained while pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree.

Veterinary Sciences

Veterinary medical education encompasses the medical care and welfare of all domestic animals.  However, most current candidates for a career in veterinary medicine have an urban background without exposure to livestock and horse terminology, handling, sanitation, or welfare.

This 16 cr hr certificate program has been developed to better prepare pre-veterinary medical students in areas of biomedical and veterinary terminology, animal handling, sanitation, and welfare.  Courses can be used as electives to apply to a college of veterinary medicine.

NOTICE: The goals of the undergraduate Certificate in Veterinary Science are to enhance the knowledge of pre-veterinary medical students in preparation for application to a professional DVM program and to enrich the knowledge of veterinary technicians who have previously graduated with an associate degree in veterinary technology.  The Certificate in Veterinary Science is not a professional program in veterinary medicine and does NOT supplant professional training in veterinary medicine nor veterinary technology.

Biomedical Sciences

A recent study of student success in veterinary colleges in North America and the Caribbean was published and concluded preparation in anatomy and physiology is often inadequate among pre-veterinary medical students.

The goal of this 16 cr hr certificate program is to better prepare pre-veterinary medical students or pre-professional students in allied medical fields  for success in biomedical terminology, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology.

Graduate Certificate in Veterinary Sciences

A graduate certificate may be achieved by graduate veterinarians and veterinary technicians who have graduated from programs accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association.  Veterinary technicians must have a bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology or an allied field in biological sciences.  Applicants must meet the admission requirements of Veterinary Online Programs and the University of Missouri Graduate School.

This 15 cr hr certificate program requires 12 cr hr of online BIOMED graduate courses and 3 cr hr of graduate level Statistics.  Successful completion of the graduate certificate will qualify the student for entering the online MS in Biomedical Sciences with an Emphasis in Veterinary Sciences degree  program.  Graduate certificate program courses can constitute partial completion of the MS degree.
